But I use a different format for recording the image metadata (I use bitmaps to record the locations of pages). Perhaps I should hasten to mention the bitmaps are discontiguous - single pages connected by a kmalloc'd list. The copyback itself will need to stay distinct. Hmm, bitmaps? Okay, then low-level code needs

The best solution that I've thought of at present is to store the metadata in an ascii format (eg xml) and write it into the comments field of the image - most useful file formats (tiff/png/gif/jpg) have some scope for storing comments. This still leaves me with the problem that some software may not respect the

Some recent post to this newsgroup, (like Peter Near's- DIL10 - IPTC keyword support) has left me wondering how (what format) and where is the metadata stored in DIL 10. I have spent countless hours adding keywords, ranking, captions to my digital images using DIL. At one point I thought DIL relied on IPTC,

It's the only way metadata can go. Systems now exist that can mine data from image files, such as whether or not the picture contains trees, or how many people. We can't conceivably alter every image format to include such metadata, nor would it be sensible to do so. The ideal system is both extensible,
